WELCOME TO TYEE TOMS SPORTFISHING
turning remarkable moments into lifetime memories
THE ULTIMATE FISHING EXPERIENCE STARTS HERE
ABOUT
Welcome aboard! I’m Captain Tom, and I’ve been navigating the pristine waters of Port Renfrew for the past 30 years. My love for fishing began when I cast my first rod at the tender age of five, a passion ignited by countless fishing trips with my dad. Those cherished moments on the water have shaped who I am today and fueled my lifelong dedication to this incredible sport.
Fishing isn’t just a hobby for me; it’s in my heart and soul. With decades of experience and a deep connection to these waters, I bring unparalleled expertise to every charter. Over the years, I’ve had the privilege of being trusted by many clients, with numerous guests returning year after year to share in the adventure.
One of my most memorable experiences was helping a young angler catch his first salmon. The joy on his face reminded me of my own early fishing days and reinforced why I love what I do.
Salmon fishing holds a special place in my heart, and there’s nothing I enjoy more than sharing the thrill of the catch with my guests. Join me on a journey where every cast is an opportunity to create lasting memories and every catch tells a story.
Additionally, my background includes managing fishing lodges, which gives me the expertise to perfect every detail of your fishing package.
Let’s reel in some unforgettable moments together!

what to bring
The beautiful West Coast on the Salish Sea offers stunning scenery and incredible fishing opportunities. However, being on the ocean means the weather can be unpredictable at times. To ensure you have a comfortable and enjoyable trip, here are some essentials to bring with you:
-
Attire: Dress in layers to accommodate changing weather conditions. Bring a waterproof jacket and warm clothing. Non-slip shoes or boots are recommended for safety on the boat. When you’re back on shore after a day of fishing, some summer days may call for shorts. Check the current weather forecast before your trip and plan accordingly.
-
Sunglasses and Hat: Protect your eyes from the sun’s glare off the water with sunglasses. Bring a hat or tuque to keep warm and shield your head from the sun.
-
Toiletries: Pack any personal toiletries you might need, such as tooth brush, sunscreen, lip balm, and any necessary medication.
-
Camera: Bring your camera! There is lots to see and capture along this adventure. As they say, “Take only pictures, leave only footprints.” Your photos will help you cherish the memories of your sportfishing experience for years to come.
-
Personal Identification: Carry some form of personal identification, such as a driver’s license or passport, while on the fishing charter. Local authorities may need to verify that the name on your fishing license matches the name on your identification.
-
Cooler: Feel free to bring a cooler to store the fish you catch for your drive home. While you’re in Port Renfrew, the fish processing facility will hold it for you until you leave, keeping it cold and ready for transport.
We look forward to providing you with an unforgettable fishing experience on the West Coast!

For those seeking the thrill of halibut fishing, Swiftsure Bank is the place to be. Located at the entrance to the Strait of Juan de Fuca, it’s renowned as one of the best spots for halibut fishing.
If cod fishing is more your style, there are plenty of prime locations to cast your line, with Lingcod being a particularly popular catch. These aggressive fighters are sure to give you an exhilarating experience.
And let’s not forget about crabbing! Drop your traps and haul in some delicious Dungeness Crab. The sweet, tender meat of this crab is a true delicacy.

Killer Whales (Orcas): These majestic creatures are known for their distinct black and white coloration that makes them easily recognizable. But watch out, the Southern Resident killer whale might be after the salmon you hooked for its next meal!
-
Humpback Whales: Known for their impressive breaches and tail slaps, they put on a good show for bystanders.
-
Porpoises: Playful and often seen swimming alongside boats.
-
Seals and Sea Lions: Frequently seen lounging on rocks or swimming in the water.
-
Sea Otters: Adorable and often seen floating on their backs.
-

-
Black Bears: Occasionally seen foraging along the beach or the side of the road.
-
Deer: Often spotted in the surrounding forests and walking along the side of the road.

PORT RENFREW
Port Renfrew’s fishing history is deeply intertwined with its development and culture. The area has been a significant fishing ground for the Pacheedaht First Nation for centuries, known for its rich marine resources. European settlers began to utilize these resources in the mid-19th century, leading to the establishment of commercial fishing operations. The town’s strategic location at the entrance of the Strait of Juan de Fuca made it a prime spot for salmon and halibut fishing. Over the years, Port Renfrew has evolved into a renowned fishing destination, attracting anglers from all over the world.
